During the month of October, I am raising money to provide the gift of gaming to children in hospitals. Gamers Outreach currently is active in over 400 hospitals in 10 different countries, creating over 12,400 gaming experiences every day.
About Gamers Outreach
Gamers Outreach is all about empowering hospitalized families through play. Their goal is building a world where activity is easily prioritised as part of care, with their tool of choice being video games!We all know that being in the hospital can be scary and isolating. Games give children access to adventure and opportunities to socialise. Sometimes, healthcare staff even use games to aid with treatment.Kids deserve the chance to be themselves. I can say that games inspire joy, being a source of enrichment and relief. Gamers Outreach's programs restore a sense of normalcy in the otherwise cold and sterile environment of a hospital. GO is helping kids heal by improving the patient experience.Gamers Outreach's mission is to make play possible for hospitalized kids and families receiving care. They're helping others level op one GO Kart at a time!
GO Karts
The Gamers Outreach Kart, shortened to GO Kart, is a portable video game kiosk built specifically for the medical environment. It comes equipped with a video game console (current models come equipped with either a PlayStation 5 or an Xbox Series X), a suitable monitor, a set of 2 controllers and of course, games to play on said consoles.It's estimated that a single GO Kart can support as many as 2,900 kids per year!
Fun fact: A single GO Kart unit is estimated in use 8 - 16 hours and by 6 - 8 kids per day!
Player 2
Player 2 is a specialized programme where select gamers become hospital volunteers, helping to solve technical problems, distribute equipment and play games with the patients. Whether that is co-op or competitive, I'm not sure.
Save Point
Save Points are high-tech vending machines that distribute fun gaming items and swag to families. Children can look forward to visiting the Save Point as they progress through their treatment.
Charitable standing and donation overview
Gamers Outreach relies on contributions from donors to make their programmes possible.
In their last annual report, 80% of their expenses were directly related to supporting their programmes.
Donations are used to sustain their existing activity and expanding the impact they have.Here's a little list of what happens with your donation:
